A downloadable game

Project Fistpunch is a platform fighter made in GameMaker Studio 2 with the paid version of the Platform Fighter Engine (https://springrollgames.itch.io/platform-fighter-engine). It was developed in Fall Quarter 2021 as part of the University of California, Irvine’s Video Game Development Club quarter project program. While mostly being based on the PFE template, there are two new characters added, such as Yosi the Dinosaur and the Clown. There were intentions to add items to the game like in Super Smash Brothers, but unfortunately, we ran out of time to implement it. 

Controls:

Keyboard: WASD to move, Enter to select, U to grab, I to shield/airdodge, O for specials, P for attacks, Y for smash attacks 

It was a team of 6 people, including the following:

Srayan Jana - Director/Producer/Team Lead - @ValorZard

I came up with the original idea for the project with the team’s help, and I taught the other members of the team how to use Git and Github, GameMaker Studio 2, and more. Even though most of the team members were inexperienced in both GameMaker/Git and game development in general, I am still proud of all the work they have accomplished.

Avery Baker/Carlos Delgadillo - Programmers

We worked on creating the data for the Clown, with the goal to make it an absurdly powerful and unbalanced character. His moveset is based on other characters’ moves from Super Smash Bros templated already into PFE, and we adjusted their knockback to extreme levels. We finished up by also implementing the attack animations provided by Jan, our artist, and adding the Clown to the character select screen.

Sebastian Ceballos - Game Designer/Programmer and Samuel Hultman - Engine Support

We worked on adjusting “Yosi’s” move set to make him a heavy set character, with the intention of making him more of a dinosaur than the nintendo’s yoshi...by using different sets of attacks. We changed the UI for player selection as we found it difficult to add a player/CPU to fight against so we made it bigger.
